Troubleshooting

• Some of my photos are missing. Photo access was probably granted for a selection rather than the whole library. Widen it in the Settings app under Privacy & Security → Photos.
• A scene mask is selecting the wrong thing. The automatic masks struggle on ambiguous edges like hair and foliage. Add a brush mask to patch the gaps, or use a colour or luminance range instead. See masks.
• Depth range is unavailable. It needs depth information captured with the photo, which only some cameras and modes record. Older photos and screenshots have none.
• The photo looks soft or plastic. Usually too much noise reduction. Check it at 100% zoom rather than fitted to the screen, and see detail.
• My export has white wedges in the corners. Perspective correction warped the frame. Turn on the option to constrain the crop; see crop and geometry.
• A preset did not look like the preview. Presets carry adjustment settings, not your crop, masks or retouching, and the same settings land differently on a different photo. Adjust exposure and white balance after applying one.
• I cannot find my edited copy. Exports save into your photo library dated just after the original, so look next to the source photo rather than at the end of your timeline.
• I want the original back. You already have it. Matisse never overwrites the source photo, so delete the exported copy and the original is untouched.

Matisse needs iOS or iPadOS 26 or later. If Auto, Upright or the scene masks are missing entirely, check that the device is up to date.
